Central Saanich has some of the biggest attractions on Southern Vancouver Island. The Saanich Fair dates back to 1868 when it was a gathering for local farming families to share and celebrate their harvest, homes and gardens. Visitors walk through 55 acres of the most amazing gardens and displays year round. In 2004 Butchart Gardens was designated a National Historic Site of Canada for it's 100th birthday. Victoria Butterfly Gardens offers a jungle experience with tropical plants galore, up to 70 species of butterflies flying around, free flying tropical birds, flamingo, an iguana, tortoises, poison dart frogs and a pond full of tropical fish.
